Hello everyone,

I have a bit of a puzzler for you all........

I have recently bought a new RDX and have been building and setting it up. I thought I'd really try to set it up properly so bought some of those 'chassis balancing' tools, to sort out the weight distribution (Using the little holes drilled in the chassis). When I tried to balance the car however I was surprised to see that it seemed lighter on the battery side? I then added the required weight to balance the chassis(i.e. to the battery side), but when I looked at the ride height the car was ALOT lower on the battery side.

I then moved the weights until I achieved equal ride height, which meant moving all the weight to the motor side, but then according to the balancing tools it is much heavier on the motor side

I am a little confused as I expected the weight would go on the motor side, but as I've said it simply will not balance this way?

I am assuming I am being a little thick, so if someone can explain how to balance the car properly I would be very grateful. :)

Matt

I run weight behind the battery (same side) to balance the chassis side to side. Extra weight goes down the centre.

Ride height I would adjust with spring pre load, may be something else out of wack to cause your ride height difference. anyone????

Cheers

Hello, thanks for the reply!

So you add weight to the Battery side too!?!? I felt sure the batteries would weigh more than the gear on the other side?

If I were to even up the ride height by spring tension one side would have the retainers much further down than this other..... I cant beleive this would be right......

I'll have another look tonight!

Thanks,

Matt

Your balancing tool will not give accurate readings if the springs are pre-loaded. You need to screw the caps right up so they are all even and then try again. Jonathan

Hello,

Sorry should have said... The collars were not pre-loaded when I checked the balance, but after 'balanacing' the car I had to pre-load one side alot to get the chassis flat (even rideheight)?????

Thanks,

Matt

The only other thing is whether the droop screws are right out.

On the point of the shocks it is best to take them off and put the whole car so it doesnt touch the ground, then measure the ride hieght - this way then takes any risk of the shocks being slightly different.

If you set up the weights then measure as above. If it is still out then it would suggest something hasnt been put together correctly.

Hello everyone....

Over the weekend I took all the added weight off and re-applied it, balancing the chassis by 'suspending' it. I have no Idea why, but it all seemed balance fine this time. :)

I then took it to my club on Sunday and was more than impressed!!! Great little car! :)

I have no idea what happened the first time I was balancing it (I must of had a funny 5 minutes), but thanks for all the help!
