hope someone can help me here. I am having a lot of problems with what i believe to be sticky brushes. i have now bought a lathe so com condition is good but i keep seeming to break down (motor just grinds to a halt) yet all it takes is to pull the brush out and let it spring back then all is well. This happens on different motors some with older brushes some with brand new(2 motors in succession last night both freshly skimmed 1 lasted 1 heat and 4 mins the other lasted 2 mins in the final >:( Im sure it must be something i am doing wrong or the brushes i use (not sure what they are) but it has happened with my stock and 19 spec motors too so if someone could give me any tips advice it would be much appreciated. Also reccommended care routines for motors will be helpful as i said i have only just got a lathe and gearing also isnt a strong point ;)

Thanks

Nathan

Just one other thing. Could it be m,y speedo settings??
Keyence zero extreme in my main car (stock and 19 spec) and LRP V7.1 in spare car (usually mod)

are you cleaning the brush hoods out with a cotton bud when you rebuild/reskim?

are you sure that you haven't "stretched" your springs, so that they have lost their springiness? :o

check if they slide freely in the brush hood without the endbell off and without the spring on.

have you had any major rear impacts at all? (assuming you are running 2WD)

How old are the brushes? If they are too worn the spring will rest on the hood rather than the brush.
The only other thing I could suggest is to increase the spring tension (I normally run 180 degrees indoors).

seems to happen with old and new brushes. Brushes move freely and its on a tourer. I use whatever springs come with the motor.

if the brushes move freely... it points to another problem, not a sticky brush.

after having problems with a sticky brush at my best ever qualifying spot at a national, i now make a VERY large thing out of cleaning my brush hoods.

yep, if your brush hoods are clean and allow free movement of your brushes, then you need to start looking elsewhere. Especially if it is happening on more than one motor. Do you have another speedo you can use to try and see if this is the problem?
