View Full Version : Tub Chassis
Hi All,
I was just wondering how many people at WLRC run tub chassis.
It's just that I don't know if I should be racing my TB-02 until I get my FK05 built or if I should wait.
Any thoughts?

Hi Stel
I cant help with the chassis but with regards what or when you race....
Why wait untill you have built your newer car? This summer is going very quickly and we are about half way through already. If you have a car that you can run then get yourself racing asap, it dosen't matter if you are fast or not! You will learn alot about how to set up and run during the day, battery timings, equipment you may not have etc etc (there is always something) and you will learn the racing lines on the various layouts that are used as well, believe me when I say it's a whole different game from test days. Just by taking part you will prepare far better for when you start seriously with your new car.

Run your FK if you got it... no good having it in a box!!!... go easy cos it will be very quick! learn to set it up etc.. there are far more people funning the FK05 than TB-02 so you can get all the advice you need... and now its the time cos when its cold and wet in winter people get very lazy in working on their cars!!!
As to tub or not.... it really depends on the car.... but I'd say the TB-02 is not a good example of a tub... sorry.

remo....tb02 is a alright tub chassis car it has the drivetrain from an evo3 which won at the worlds in 2003 in the hands of surikarn.
thing about that drive train is stripping belel gears its one peice drive shaft links both gearboxes in a heavy crash will leve the car in peices otherwise its a quick car .... may be biased as im a tamiya fan and currently setting up my evo4 .
but if you have your fk05 race it if you got any car that can be raced race it its all good fun. remo would know about a good tub chassis car though cos his yoke flys.
so what are you waiting for ..........?

Nick a couple of things, the cars that the guys use at the worlds are nothing like straight out of the box. Don't believe ANY of the advertising and hype you read anywhere because it just isn't the case. Also Remo's running the AE tub, now there is just NO comparison between a moulded plastic tub and a "proper" carbon fibre laid up tub, that is the only way to design a tub properly :)

Getting pedantic here but also - what Worlds are you talking about?
The ifmar istc Worlds as recently won by Marc Rheinard were last held in 2002 and yes Surikarn Chaidejsuriya won but he used the TRF414 of some varient as I remember.
stel, what are you afraid of just come down and start racing. do a few races with the tamiya till you get hooked then change to the xray.
you can book online for the next meeting on the 10 july.simple!
theres no time like the present!!
Thanks for all the comments. I will start racing the TB-02, as I've said previously, it's just a starter car and I'm an amateur so I think they go hand in hand.
As for the FK05, I'm still building it and I'm doing it to top spec (all hop-ups included) so this is taking a bit of time and money.
I will be practicing quite a bit to learn the track first before racing as I don't want to be a nuisance to other drivers but think that I will register for the next race on the 10th July.
One more thing, I'm looking at some cells for the FK and seem to be stuck on the Almighty GP3700's. Good or bad?
Anyways, thanks alot guys and gals for the advice.
Stel
Stel,
The thing about the FK 05 is you DONT NEED any hop ups! its got it all!!!
You money will be in better use to get the tyres, servo, motor, batts.
Get a Stratus2 shell and off you go.
NEVER worry what other drivers think cos we have al been there, you will start in heat one where there will be others who arent as experienced and that is part of the game.... its their job to avoid you too :p... if you are not in control then announce it and slow down.
Cells wise most GP based cells are fine PM me if you need to know more.

Oh so thats where your driving style comes from then!! Only kidding Remo.

rob what motor is in your car. because it seems physically impossible to drive at that speed with a 27t. its actually insane. please pm me where to get one !!!!!! :D
Not trying to put an advert for my sponsor but I run EA Monster 27t's. I cycle 3 motors but all are very strong. You must remember that speed has many elements though. Motor, Cells, SpeedController and Gearing. Then you need to be carrying as much corner speed as possible to let the car wind up as it should do. Hope it helps, hope the season continues the way it has been going.
