This is not intended as a finger pointing exercise but after watching and taking part in the first 2 rounds the standard for driving was in my opinion quite poor in general. I don't know if the committee wanted to look in to maybe watching a bit more closely or appointing a referee this it is just a suggestion really to try and raise the driving standard and in the end make the day more enjoyable for everyone. We have all spent alot of money buying cars and equipment only to get it damaged by another driver.
Also sorry for going on but another suggestion to the committee is that if a member wants to race in both classes they must find a substute marshall to let them race.
In round 2 I had to marshall a car on the infield section ( I was marshalling at point 3 beside the middle of the straight beside the fence) that was sitting on its roof on the grass, the member was shouting out because of the lack of marshalls they were loosing placings( not my fault they parked it on it's roof !!) but they were also effectively revving the motor in the car because they were annoyed,as I picked up the car to help them it was revved and I now have a friction burn on my hand. Next time any car like that I will just leave on its roof. I do not do it to others so I do not expect to have it done to myself.

i agree with this point, any other club/event i have been to has had someone, even the person on the computer ref'in the race. And since you are being more strict to timeouts and the like before races you mgiht aswell go the whole way and start to enforce the rules of this non contact sport

Good points Bryan.
We have actually suggested to a new member to have the official position of referee, i'll let you know if he accepts!
All good points though....let's hope we can iron out these creases for round 3 on May 8th!
See you soon.

If anyone else would like to put their name forward for the position of sdrcc referee (preferably a non-racer so he/she can oversee all racing) then please PM or email me.
All complaints and disciplinary decisions will be through this post.

racing is great fun when your car comes out of it in one pice but if it comes out in 100 pices it is not so great.
i myself am new and have broke a car.
i totaly agree with the reffing idea we need some one that can oversee the racing ( prefable if some one knows and understands the racing as accedents can happen ). i know some one who was wrongally accussed of this but in the end we are all good racers and no matter wat the drivving skill is 1 or 15 we all make mistakes. i am glad at stony we have great racing and great friendship this is my first year or racing but all you racers and hellpers have made it seem as if i have new you all my life.
i myself cant race the off road this year as i am hoping to work on my tc3 but i am goin to turn up as the more martials the better.
thanks

Correct Aidan, I seen an empty Marshall point so I covered it. I was not aware the driver was in the wrong position
Maybe need to highlight the procedure at the drivers briefing so any new racers are aware of the procedure...........
Good idea on the ref, not always easy for the Race Director to sit and watch......
Weathers looking good so here's to a crackin' days racing....Watch out for a limping TC4 though... :D :D :D

A nice hot sunny day on Sunday.... me in my shorts.... which would then buy me a few seconds as you all fall about laughing at my canary like legs... and as you all roll around in fits of laughter... I have the last laugh as I roar off into the distance... (only to crash on the last corner no doubt haha)
Joking apart, lets all look forward to another fine day and some good racing, with everyone doing their best to muck in and share the load.
Cya Sunday lads

hey i would like to agree that we should imply someone to be a ref at the race meetings because since i have started to race at the club some of the drivin performances have went down hill dramaticaly, i hope we all do know that it is a non contact sport we do. i think that the racers best time that they have got should be taken off of them if a foul is commited. i clearly remember an incident at round 3 that should have had a sever penalty. i was marshalin in the center of the track and a car was passin another on on the outside, the car on the inside clearly swerved to "attack" the passin car so to speak, the offendin car just drove on like nothing happened, the least he could have waited to let the car infront of him back but that never happened. we need to try and get rid of shocking drivin like this, it just makes ppl angry when someone hits there car when it could be avoided and the car is then broken.
another point i would like to bring up is the attitude on the gantry, i know that yes when ppl crash they all have there own muttering of swear words to themself i myself am prone to doing so, but it is taken a bit to far when in the middle of a race that someone at the other side of the gantry starts to shout and swear then stamp and kick the ganrty. this is very off putting for other drivers, so i think at penalty for taking the shouting and swearing too far and kicking the gantry adn storming about up and down the stairs, and there is also no point in shoutin and swearing at the marshal when you crash if they are a bit slow to get your car, it is a very big track so give them some time to respond and reach your car before you start shouting and kicking things and pluss if you were actualy any good at driving you wouldnt crash so you got no one to maon at.
kenny if i think of anymore things i will write more
I know at the indoor GP they sacrificed two marhsalls in every heat and gave them referee'ing duties instead. Good if you have 10 car heats which i'm guessing it will be at the outdoor GP, all of these referee's were handpicked before the meeting and allocated the correct number in the heats for the referee spots, the refs were in contact using walkie talkie's altho the smtca used to use headsets to keep in touch, race control also used to have one.
Ideally you should have one ref on the rostrum to talk directly to the drivers when an incident occurs, a ref on the track and the guy on the computer all watching the race and the driving standards. It's also very helpful if the ref's are keeping an eye on the race order, they can notify the slower cars that the leader is approaching, this is something that used to be taken for granted at meetings but now virtually no meeting in scotland keeps an eye out for faster cars etc which really annoys the hell out of me. Esp in finals when the car numbers have changed and you dont know who is who as the auto race order the computer gives out doesnt include driver names, most people can associate names with shell colours very easily.
Loosing your FTQ is a bit harsh for a first offence, but certainly a 5 sec stop/go penalty is a good place to start. I'm sure most people wouldnt mind helping out with ref duties during the day, if there are 3 heats, i can race in one, marshall another and ref the third. If there are a few volunteers from each heat you can even vary the ref each round as to give everyone a break if you see what i mean ;)
