hi i've been into rc for many years but not in the electric scene for a long time but i want to start again. i gonna get a v12 but at my local club they allow anything. so what i want to know is what turn motor i should get and how many cells you guys think i should run. it is a small twisty track so not that much power needed?

you don't need more than four cells, and 540 motor. The V12's don't have a differential, so anything above that, maybe with the exception of a mild 27° stock motor will render the car undriveable in a competitive way, unless you are really VERY VERY gentle with your throttle control.
If you are desperate for more speed, you could always go for a six cell pack, shoe-horned into it. That will give you all the power you will ever need!

I hope not to cause any offence or assuming that you lack driving skills but before you look into throwing money into extras trying to get the car to go as fast as possible, try it with a standard set up first.
There is a sticky thread at the top of the mardave section which lists many tweaks to get the cars to handle well which is the main thing first.
Get the car going exactly how you want and then look at making it quicker with gearing and tyre diameters which are low cost.
We race with standard V12's with Mardave 1850 nicads as well as using no delay ESC's or the standard mechanical kit speedo the difference in speed and performance is no different but perhaps better battery duration with the esc.
Unlimited racing is possibly called that not because of the rules or conditions but more perhaps because the COST will be unlimited
keep it simple keep it cost effective you can buy 3 1850 nicads for the cost of a 3600nimh also look at the most suitable charger for your needs 4 amp is normally fine. :)

4-cells, with the mabuchi rs540sh (not the kit one) motor. These motors are 22 turn, so are faster than a 27T would be.
If you run a V12 with six cells, the extra power and weight means that you get through tyres very quickly (I've worn out a pair of fronts on my saloon stox in 4 races, wheras they would have lasted 4 months on 4-cells!)
We run to BRCA rules at my local club in high wycombe. Its a small, twisty carpet track. With a mardave V12/Hot-rod, I'm about 25 seconds slower over 5 mins than I am with a 27T TC (not much when you compare the price of each car!)
