im in the process of restoring a holiday buggy it has been in my dads shed for the last fifteen years so as you can imagine it is a bit of a mess,i have stripped it down and am now in the process of rebuilding it,all that i can see is missing are the steering rods and side by side hole servo horn, what i cant weigh up is how the battery sits in the chassis, did this car use the hump pack??? or a standard stick pack???,and lastly the motor that it has is a 385 sh,a tiny motor compared to todays motors, was there ever a hop up motor mount to accept a standard 540 motor,
thanks

Hi Darryl, my first car in 1986 and one one of my all time favorites !

The std steering arms had a loop built in to give some servo gear protection, the arm itself it quite a short throw one.

The normal battery pack to use with this car was the 5 cell Tamiya 6v pack (arranged side by side in the plastic case) The Tamiya hump pack will fit in there, but I think you need to replace the fuse with the 'reset' circuit breaker used in the Rough Rider and Sand Scorcher. This has a higher rating and unlike the original fuse, it can be reset just by pushing the button back in.

If it's still the standard motor in the car, then it's the Mabuchi 380, used with the 6v battery it should last 20 minutes + on a run.

Believe it or not the Holiday Buggy had it's own class in the 1980's which then became the 380 class, where driving was far more important than being fastest in a straight line.

There is indeed a hop up aluminium motor plate to suit the 540 motor , this was supplied with the Sand Rover, the Holiday Buggy's open topped sister car, and there have been a few for sale recently you know where !

I've spent about four times the original new kit price on mine so far, but it was my first car, sentimental old fool that I am ;)

Check out www.tamiyaclub.com if you need help locating parts.

If its too good to run after sorting it out why not treat yourself to a new Tamiya Hornet re-release !!!!
