Hopefully I maybe racing in the Don Valley Winter Series, but I've entered the stock class this year, now my question is what gearing is a good starting point for the Xray, the car has the 1.77 pullies on.
Never raced stock so any suggestions will be most welcome.
Thanks. Jonny

First you need to answer the usual questions;

1). Which stock motor are you going to be running?
2). How big is the track you are racing on?

I'd normally start at around 6.5-7 overall for a Fantom P2K2 indoors (been running 7.8 recently but that is on a stupidly small track with 8 second laps).

That was going to be the next question, which of the stock motors would you recommend?
I like the sound of Demon or BRM just to support a smaller British company.

With modified motors on that track we run on around 7.1. The track is not that small but its not too big. We understand that you would go up quite a few pinions. Is this correct?

Well for that sized track I'd start at something around 6-6.5 for anything P2K2-based. For anthing monster-based I'd probably head up to around 6.5-7.

As for stock motors, I used to love my BRM Chrome but I don't think Glyn based his stocks on the same motors any more. I'd recommend Demon, ok so Nick sounds like he's half asleep when you ring him up but the service is fantastic and I've seen a few of his motors running and they are a bit rapid. I'll be getting one of his 19t stocks for our winter series this year.
