The big6 is a great fun car and when set up properly can turn in lap time akin to a stock touring car but racing them is MUCH more fun because of their size you have to plan overtaking manouvers better and because the are 2wd there is always more chance of a mistake.
Why not show up for a BTCC round and try racing it.

I agree 100% with Jason, they are excellent to drive!
I'm an idiot behind the sticks, and I'm second in the electric BTCC! ;)
Yeh, I agree - great fun.
We have a series this summer at Milton Keynes for Big6s. Anybody interested - see the calendar on our website www.mkrctc.org.uk
I'm running Jason's old big6, so it should be set up about right :D

Bish, but in your case it's not the car, it's the driver....
BTW, last week I got within 5 secs of the lap record on a damp, cold track...wait for the next sunny big6 round!

Bish,
If your going to run it at MK you will need to run softer springs Red front Blue rear for a start. You might also try less castor as the car was set up with extra castor for high grip tracks. I the rear end is a little loose more rear toe in using some fireblade blocks.
That should help keep DT behind you.
Jason
Thanks Jason, I'll try that. Last time I accidentally put the wrong pinion on and was losing out big time down the straight. Try not to do that again!!

Almost as bad as Ian's - putting a stock motor in ;D ;D ;D

ROFLMAO!
Jason,
Reds are softer than blues - so is it red at the front?
I take it the castor is adjusted by taking out the small spacer on the suspension - Should I adjust the front and the rear?
cheers

nope, reds are 20lb, blues 15 lb.

Reds are harder than blues. It works better with on spring heavier on the front to the back it helps to control the weight transfer.
So start with reds on the front blue rear.
At most other tracks I ran silver fronts and yellow rears.
It goes
Black 6lb
Grey 10lb
Blue 15lb
Red 20lb
Yellow 25lb
Silver 35lb

Dont remove the spacer from the rear it will take off the anti squat and make the car more tail happy coming out of corners. And I seem to remember its quite lively anyway around MK
Jason
Jason,
Thanks
The fireblade blocks you mentioned. Are these from the off-road car?

lol, yup i know - just spotted it and changed accordingly!!
What sort of ride height is best for the BIG6 ?
Here is Jason's set up as posted elsewhere
I use a 13 double Fantom Ti on 23:92 about a tooth and a half higher than you on 20-24 degrees advance. Dont go any higher than this because it kills the acceleration. I can run 5 mins easy even at Ashby on this gearing
Stock metal hydrides are the best cells by far in the big 6 because they thve much more punch but are expensive.
I run 2.5 degrees camber all round this stops the tyre going onto its sidewall when chassis rolls and stops the digging in also run silver springs (35 Rate) on the front
Shocks are ultra short (touring car) bodies with short (standard) pistons 4hole rear 3 hole front 100wt oil or 120 if on high grip tracks like snetterton of halifax
Run rear anti roll bar it helps the car change direction quicker
At the rear try turning the riser round on the wishbone so it leans out an run the ball in the lower hole and run the shock top in the upper outer hole this should give you more angle on the shock and more droop in the rear suspension to stop the car picking up the inside wheel on the way into corners. It sounds like you might have your shocks too short.
I generally run at 12mm ride hight.
Also run a 1mm spacer under front of the front wishbone pivot block to increase the caster this helps to make the car more stable in fast corners
Also try putting 2 screws in the back of the wing mount in the shell leave them up 7-8mm so thet bend the wing up ang increase the angle of attack.
I always run standard toe on the rear and straight at the front.

Hi, I've been reading all this about the Big 6 and really fancy having a go. Where can I find the rules and regs for this class. I've looked on the Schumacher site but can't seem to find anything. Am I looking in the wrong place ?.
Please someone help.

The Big 6 rules are simple! Get hold of one, chuck in a motor (somewhere between 12-14 turns recommended) 6 cells, radio kit from your TC and have a blast!
I would also recommend getting the racing tyres / inserts rather than using the kit ones. You should get 3 seasons !!! out of a set!
We areracing them this Sunday at MK, so feel free to pop down. If you bring your TC they you canrun that as well as it's not dedicated to big 6's (but we do run them in seperate heats)

yeah, but I have to pay full retail for mine! :'(
jason

I was probably working them a bit harder, using a very agressive additive and racing at tracks that are far more abrasive than Milton Keynes though.
Jason
BTW I still had to pay for them.
Its still a lot less costly than using 2 stes of tyres on a TC for a days racing.

Hey Mark, I've got the alloy motor mount now, so I might beat you at Bedworth!
It would be nice to see more than the same three cars though.
MarkB

Well if Mark actually used the three or more chassis he has... ;)
I agree its a shame, and like Jason I really enjoyed out 2 & 1/2 years of Big 6 racing. The kits are a bargin, and you're alsmot guaranteed a mention in the write ups with so few in the class.
Cheers

Donated one of my cars to a guy in our team at Aldershot, we are going to share spares and help him set it up. Getting rid of those shocks!, he is entering the rest of the rounds. So the Black Beast will be racing again!!! Have you checked out the results on Aldershots web-site? I hold the lap record for big 6 in a final!!!!!!! Everyone at work has seen it, and provided they dont race until next year, (which I am fairly certain they wont), I will hold it for a year. CHUFFED OR WHAT!

Well WLRC was good for big 6's with a higher than normal turnout and signs that maybe a few people might get interested in them again. my new driver cant believe he can drive it without breaking it, as he breaks everything he drives normally, these big 6's are pound for pound the toughest racing cars out. Looking at the championship tables for btcc, and what do we see but all four championships are very close with MK and Ashby left to race at. Seeya at MK Garry.

Maybe with the MK Big 6 championship turning out their cars, and the the final round being at Ashby, could we see 2 heats of the Monster Elises?
Remember, they are only a couple of quid more that an S1 Mission.... thats a lot of car for your money!
See you at MK Mark!
