View Full Version : Fitting 3300 into 1/12th scale cars

In preperation for this weekends national (I know, "what's preperation??") I tried fitting some 3300's...but they don't! This was in a SP12M (6 cell version).
The solution (well mine anyway....)

1) remove the cell "holder" (2 screws)
2) remove the nut from the cell "holder"
3) reassemble the alloy front battery post using the nut (2) as a spacer
4) take some padding (1/4" thick rubber is good) and glue to the chassis between the battery slots
5) fit batteries!

This solution offers several benefits:
1) allows you to run 3300 cells!
2) reduction in weight as you have removed 2 battery holders
3) lower CoG as the batteries fit slightly lower in the chassis (the padding is merely to prevent the batteries going below the chassis line)

How it works - I guess I'll find out on Saturday! ;D

Mine were very tight on a 4 cell car. So i took a sharp knife and Dremel and removed a bit of plastic from each end so the longer cells are now fine.

Just what I told Dave to do Matt.
I checked with Corally and they do not have another tray.

I considered the removal of some plastic option, but my ability to scalpel a straight line.... ?

Also, the diameter of 3300's is bigger than the 2400's I used to run, so I thought a more holistic approach was necessary.

My big concern was the conductivity of the carbon, but this hasn't manifested itself in my Xrays which works on the same principle.

Of course the defining measure will be the first accident - watch for cells shooting out from the car as it comes to a sudden stop!

Finally got my new cells - I'm so organised :P
Only need to solder them up now ::)

Seem to fit in the car without any modification okay, a bit tight but nothing I'm going to worry about.
