Hi all,

I'm deserting off-road for the winter and running a T1R indoors on carpet instead.
Can anyone suggest a starting point for gear ratios?

I'll be running on primafelt with Carpet Dragons, using a Peak Hellfire stock and DCR matched GP3300's.

A couple of years ago I did the same thing with a TC3 and ran 26:72 (about 6.9:1), but that was with 2400's.

I have ran a few stock motors in the Xray, the cells dont seam to matter, its the temperature of the motor that is critical..

On the Hellfire which is I believe based on the Orion stock, I ran between 6.9 and 6.5 dependant on the track. The Reedy MVP I went up two teeth as it has more torque to around 6.4. The Green Machine 2 has less torque but revs more and I normally go betwen 6.9 and 7.2.

It all depends on the stack type on the motor, if it has lots of metal on the armature you can add teeth, if not you have to make it rev to get it to shift...

Best bet is to ask around then go down one tooth smaller to start with...

I assume that when you ran your TC3 you ran a hellfire. If so then I would start around 6.8. With my experiance of helfires I find that you need to gear a toooth or two down from P2K2 style motors as otherwise they get rather hot.

Sorry, should have said, I ran either a TOP based BRM Chrome stock or a Peak Spitfire.

It's been a while since I ran a BRM chrome, but from memory they are rather torquey... :o I'd start at about 6.8 for the BRM and go from there, I have no idea about the Spitfire.

If thats the case then I will stick to my first post and say 6.8 but be prepared to gear up.

Ran a BRM chrome 2 years back on 6.4:1 and the Spitfire on 6.7:1 with high silver brushes. Post Chrome BRM's needed smaler pinions to get them to go but found them not as good as Chrome version.

Finally got to use it tonight! ;D
Used a Fantom P2K something or other, don't know if it was a 2 or a Pro.
Ended up on 93:31 (6.375) and it was pretty good.
I'm going to get some more spurs have a play around next week.
