Hi all,
I have a TC3 racer that I bought secondhand already built. It is getting a little bit on the dirty side now!
I think it would probably benefit from a complete stripdown-clean-rebuild.
How difficult is it? I have the original manual.
What are the best things to use for cleaning, degreaser's etc.?
Also when I rebuild where are the best positions for the elaectrics?
At the moment they are as follows: Reciever on top of servo, speed controller on the chasis behind then the motor. This seems to put a lot of the wires close to the arial and maybe causing some interference.
Any advice would be greatfully recieved.
Cheers
Paul.

to strip it down the easiest way in my opinion is to follow the manaul backwards then start at the beginning to re-build , to clean it soap and water (hot) works well and so does motor cleaner on really bad bits ..

Hi,
I also bought a seconhand TC3 so I know all about the initial cleaning process.
What I did was literally just start taking it appart, kept all the bits on a tray. Then using soapy water and washed and dried everything. Then rebuilt it. I'll admit I didn't really do it in the manual order but it all went back together fine.
It's pretty easy to do, the car is obviously a kit to start with so its designed to be easy to construct. I rebuild my car about once a month all the way back down to single pieces.
My electrics are currently the same as yours due to my older kit being just too big to fit alongside each other. If you can I would recommend (Front to Back) Servo, Receiver, ESC, Motor all flat on the base of the tub. This makes them more secure and protected within the tub, it also slightly lowers the centre of gravity. If you can't do thi though I've hd not problem with the receiver on top of the servo.
Hope that helps.
If you need anything else give us a shout.
Cheers

I've got small enough electronics to put them in line along the chassis of my TC3, but I have found that having the receiver on top of the servo minimises any interference.

If its a problem then do it that way, however everyone else I know with a TC3 runs it along the base. The receiver only gets interference when power cables run next to the aerial. With the reciever in the middle of the servo and ESC you can run the aerial stright out of the car thus reducing interference.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll try to reseat the electrics along the base as Andy surgests.

If you are new to this car I would suggest you strip and rebuild the car just to know how it is put together. (Especially if you are going racing).
If you ever break something (and you will ;) ) you will be able to repair your car a lot quicker.
It's not diffecult, just take your time.

I am also in the middle of a strip down and clean up rebuild of my second hand factory TC3 as i managed to break the front wishbone on a radiator leg at my local club race meeting. i have taken the whole front end off my car to get to the problem and i thought i might aswell give it a clean up. i recommend you use a damp soapy cloth too and for the particularly grimey bit i use something called ampsol from drychem but you cant get it privately an thats a shame cause it works really well but you can use regular degreaser. aslong as you remember to grease/oil up the bits that need it before u put it back together.

A nice bit of motor spray on a cloth or toothbrush gets off that grease too :)
