Hi, I am new to this forum and new to 1/12
I just bought a RC12L3 KIT from Team Associated
I see on the forum that people run 4 cell mod or either 6 cell stock
is it a must? like can i run 4 cell stock?
and also what esc do you recommend for it?
I saw people running 1/12 at my local track and those things were fast!
I just start running nitro just in the summer, and don't know much about electrics. I will be running on both carpet and asphalt track.

4 cell stock should be fine to start with, and a lot more controllable, therefore better to learn with. It depends on what your track is like, at my club the top driver uses 4 cell stock, as the track is small and tight.

Hi Jackson,

The RC12L3 is a good chassis to rum with 4-cells. I used to have one too. As far as motors go with 4-cells you can run any motor you like so a stock will be OK to start with. I run on a very small "point and squirt" track and have found that the milder motors are the best for me. The hottest I run on a regular basis is a 12x1 but I also have got on well with a 14, 17 and even a 19...

I can recomend either the LRP or Nosram ranges of speedo. They are basically the same electrics in different boxes and as they are so small and light they are ideal for 1/12. Get as good a model as your pocket can afford and it will allow you to run the hotter morors in the future.

James.

Thanks John and James,
I just have a few more questions
Is the GM V3R any good?
And is it ok if I buy 2 unmatched 6 cell packs and use them as three 4 cell packs?

Hi again,

Not sure about the GM speedo. Check what it says on the box. If it says "4 - 8 cells" or something like that it should be OK. Watch out tho, apparently even tho some say 4 cells on the side they do not necessarally run at full efficency unless the FETs inside get 6 or more volts. Running a reciever pack will sort that out. Best to check with your local model shop for the exact spec of the speedo and see the thread on here regarding reciever packs.

As for splitting batteries, that is exactly what I do - buy two full packs to get three 4 cell packs. If they are un-matched it makes no difference as the cells are just picked out if the bucket in the first place so you re-sorting them is ok.

Good luck,

James

If you're using the 6 cell chassis, try staggering the cells, move the left had side of the saddle to the front 2 slots and the right to the rear. I've done this for half a season and it seemed to balance out the car a bit. (Left and right taken when looking fron the back end)

I am not sure what you mean
Do you mean like this?
pretend this is the slots from overhead

front
1 2
3 4
5 6
back

So is it 1&3 for the left, and 4&6 for the right?
Thanks
