I remember a similar thread but can’t find it, so here goes
I have no extra weights on my car at present but i found it necessary to move one set of cells one slot forward. My car has an inclination to understeer with all but new or nearly new front tyres. I have tried most geometry / spring combinations without much success. How much weight would you recommend and where about. I have some self adhesive lead weights 8 x 10g and 8 x 5g to play around with.

I have been using the Xray centre weight kit to good effect recently, I have 35g in the centre at the front (just behind the steering servo saver) and my cars still under weight. Try putting 20g there and see how it goes, you can always add more if you feel the need to.

I have the FT version and with a body, electrics and batteries it is aboit 120g under weight!
I have used about 40g to get the side to side balance right and also have a 60g bar of lead down the centre just behind the steering post. I am still a little light so I will test it this afternoon to see where to put the extra weight.
From what I have heard, to much weight at the rear will promote oversteer, especially in chicanes, due to the pendulum effect. Too much at the front will do the opposite. Having the centre of balance about 0.5- 1.5cm forward of the cars centre line is apparently good. This is what I'm going to aim for.

As I only race at my local club at present and we have no minimum weight rule
Would I be correct in saying a lighter car would be better, or dose the extra weight aid stability?

A lighter car will accelerate quicker due to its lower mass, but in most cases its not that much quicker, its better to try and get the car balanced with a little extra weight here and there, but too much weight can make the car unstable

To get my FT up to the weight limit i have got 125g of lead/brass on the car. I have all my weight down the centre line of the car apart from 10g which is on the side of the servo to balance the car left to right.
If you run the car as it comes without adding the weight it will be significantly quicker.

Yes, a lighter car will accelerate quicker, but with the relatively small differences in weights we are looking at the differences in acceleration would not really be noticable. You would notice more between twcars with different setups and cells / motors.
Lighter cars also get around the corners faster - a light car needs less mechanical grip to get round the same radius as a heavier car. Just look at the 4-cell 1/12 cars for proof of that!
If your club has no minimum weight rules then I would advise that you balance the car side to side and leave it at that. Then work on the set up and tire choice to get lower lap times.
