Hi Guys just wondering about a big 6 chassis made of carbon fibre. Does anyone know where I could get carbon fibre sheet or a reasonably light alternative? Obviously it would have to be double decked but I am sure it could be done. And what a weight saving!!!

Only place I know, is hansel composites (Fibre Lyte), and if there is enough of you to make it worth his while, he will knock of a batch for you too, making it a little cheaper probably.

I know down in South Wales, the guy who sells a load of Mardave stuff, when the Cobra came out, got a batch of Carbon chassis made up, including the front kickup,

Mark,

But the chassis doubles up as a heatsink and having the seen a couple of your motors this year you need it ;D

LOL, I just figured it could be fun to try it. I was thinking about fitting a fan near the motor to help with the cooling, besides if the car was lighter the motor shouldn't get so hot and may not need all that heatsink.

Perhaps I should run a double alloy chassis for improved cooling!!!!

You could always bond a metal heatsink to the chassis, with a cutout underneath, but you would have to play with that, or duct air from the fron of the chassis to the motor, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem.

I don't think the motor is getting cooled by the chassis that much anywyas, thinking about it, I reckon it is more to do with heatsoak from the heat comming of the engine and exhasut being absorbed by the chassis, than the chassis ACTUALLY removing heat from the engine

Found a guy who can make a chassis using the original chassis as a template so it will have the correct kick up. Hopefully ready to practice in october.

Mark,

You do know it wouldn't be legal for BTCC though dont you :'(

Schumacher speed secrets only!!

If the price was right, I'm sure it would be made legal....... ;)

Just an experiment at the moment but if the weight saving is effective then perhaps Schumacher would allow it to be sold as a speed secret or make a version themselves. Only fun at the moment.

I had an idea the other day, how about making the alloy chassis thinner?

After all, the electric cars don't go as quick as the Nitro Big 6's, so the chassis doesn't have to be so thick.

Wheres my Dremel...
