I've noticed that theres a fair amount of play in the steering on my SD. I've changed the ball cups to stronger HPI ones but due to their size I couldn't change the steering linkage as they'd foul the gear case.

As anyone changed the steering link from ball and cup to a solid bar to reduce slop? its odd becuase it seems worse on one side than the other.

Any tips/advice appreciated.

where do you meen?

connecting the left and right side togther? (the one thtas underneath)

or the ones that connect the steering blocks to the bellcrank?

i ahve replaced all the ball ends with schumacher ones apart from the front camber ones which i hav replaced with the antiroll bar ones as they are a better fit.

Its mostly in the connection between left and right but there seems to be more movement in the left hand link between block and bell crank.

Might replace the balls and cups and see what that does.

if you put a o ring on the actual balls stud and then put the link on it stops the play.

i hav also noticed that there is lots of play between left and right but there is nothing you can do about as no other ball studs fit in as they catch on the fr hinge pin mount.

i was thinking about making something out of carbon fibre that is the exact lenght and then screw it in shud stop the play

Take a plastic grocery bag, and take little bits of the plastic and stretch it over the ball ends. This will make them slightly larger and lessen slop. Also, there will be less wear on your ball ends, and will instead tear up the plastic covering. I used to do this on my Surikarn.

Get a small bit of tissue and put it in the cup if slop is still there then add a bit more
A buddy did this and got rid of all the play but found it to twitchy
Hope this helps :D

i used carbon rollbar stay from tamiya tao3.cut down flanged collars thru the holes and 2 washers either side of the screw holes.less play and solid feel to the steering!if you twist all link ends in opposite directions they have no play.
